Mingo Central baseball player Gabe Vinson has signed to play baseball for the University of Pikeville.
Vinson, a first baseman for the Miners, signed after a tryout about three weeks ago.
Vinson, who played for Burch High School before the consolidation, said he will probably play both outfield and first base for the Bears.
“I’m excited that I will be playing baseball for four more years,” Vinson said. “I plan to work out this summer to get ready for this fall.”
Vinson said he plans to major in Biology and hopes to go into Sports Medicine.
He is coached by Walt Cline and his father Hurston Vinson at Mingo Central. He becomes the first baseball player from the new school to sign a baseball scholarship.
UPike is coached by Chad Gassman. He has signed several players from the region.
