GILBERT - The clouds were out in full force Saturday as the Gilbert Lions took on the Hannan Wildcats at Lions Field. And the day turned in to an all out storm for the Wildcats as Gilbert scored 8 runs in the first inning and never looked back enroute to an 18 to 2 drubbing of the visitors.

Tanner Grimmett led the way for Gilbert going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles at the plate while also pitching a complete game 3 hitter against the Wildcats. Grimmett allowed no walks and had seven strikeouts in a most memorable performance for him.

Grimmett’s pitching drew strong praise from Lions Head Coach Walt Cline. “Tanner pitched an outstanding game allowing just 2 runs on 3 hits, and no walks” said Cline. “Anytime a pitcher doesn't give up any walks and his team plays solid defense behind him, it gives a team a chance to to get a win.”

Josh Carter showed his strength for the Lions going 2 for 4 with one of those hits being a 3-run homer. Roger Ellis also homered, earning his the hard way as an inside-the park home run. In all, the Lions collected 15 hits during the game. That left Cline smiling.

“We hit the ball well today, all 9 starters had hits.” Cline added “It was nice to have a game today that every pitch, and play wasn't crucial to the outcome of the game. Hopefully we can get rolling off of this game, and get the rest of our games in to prepare for the sectionals.”
